Spend Management

Control costs with spend caps, alerts, and usage tracking.

SMLL gives you tools to monitor and control your spending so you're never surprised by a bill.

Spend alerts

Set up alerts to be notified when your spending reaches a threshold:

  1. Go to Settings → Billing → Spend Alerts
  2. Click Add Alert
  3. Set a threshold amount in GBP (e.g. £20)
  4. Choose notification channels (in-app, email)
  5. Save

You can create multiple alerts at different thresholds (e.g. £10, £25, £50) to get incremental warnings.

Spend caps

Spend caps automatically take action when your balance runs out:

ActionDescription
Scale down (default)Services are scaled to zero when balance reaches £0
Notify onlyYou're notified but services keep running

Configure your spend cap action in Settings → Billing.

Scale down behavior

When the spend cap is reached with the "scale down" action:

  • Running services are scaled to zero replicas
  • Databases remain accessible but new ones can't be created
  • Resources are preserved — nothing is deleted
  • Top up your balance to resume operations

Usage tracking

Daily and monthly summaries

The billing dashboard shows:

  • Daily spend — breakdown of charges per day
  • Monthly summary — total spend by resource type
  • Balance transactions — complete history of top-ups and charges

Per-resource costs

See how much each resource costs by viewing the usage breakdown on the billing page. Costs are broken down by:

  • Resource type (compute, database, storage, network)
  • Individual resource (specific service or database)
  • Time period

Cost estimation

Before creating a resource, use the cost estimator:

  1. Select the resource type
  2. Choose the region
  3. Enter expected usage (hours, GB, etc.)
  4. See the estimated cost

This helps you plan your budget and choose the right instance sizes.
